Pastor Brendan Munro
Born in Highbury, grew up in Stratford. Worked as journalist on weekly papers from Walthamstow to Bishop’s Stortford and The Cambridge Evening News before being sent out to Africa in 1980 to report on Zimbabwe’s independence, where he became the Acting News Editor on the Morning Chronicle in Bulawayo. It was while in Zimbabwe that Brendan became a committed Christian. Answering God’s call on his life, he quit journalism, trained for church ministry at a college in Johannesburg, eventually returning to London in 1989 to take up the role of senior pastor of The Gospel Centre.
Besides pastoring at this church, Brendan is also the national overseer for the Harvest Community Network group of churches and is an integral part of the Pray Haringey unity movement – seeking to unite local believers and churches in prayer and service for the wider community.
He and Marianne have been married for 34 years, have two children and two grandchildren!
Youth Pastor - Peter Barnardo
I came into youth ministry from a gap year with North London youth charity n:flame, where I received training and equipping in faith and in youth & schools work. I had a great time there and made many friends, as well as working at The Gospel Centre. I’m still working for n:flame, going into schools and coordinating youth celebrations. My gap year placement was at the Gospel Centre and I quickly felt a connection with the people there. In my spare time I like to make and play music, whether in church worship or performing, write songs and produce music. I’ve produced my own music and I like to collaborate with other artists and musicians.
Paul has been an Elder at the Gospel Centre for 40 years and is involved in music, leading worship, occasional preaching, and finance and organisation - and hedge and plant trimming. Married to Wendy, they have a daughter and a son and three grandchildren. Outside interests include playing double bass in amateur orchestras, gardening and d-i-y, model railways and life- size trains, and keeping up with his family - both living (many cousins) and dead ancestors!
I am Michael Famokunwa, married to Modupe Famokunwa. We are blessed with 2 sons now in their 20s, Bamidele and Olusope. Dupe, Dele and myself joined the Gospel Centre in 1993. The Lord has enriched us greatly with the wonderful family of the congregation.
Kelly joined the Gospel Centre with her family in 2012 and has served on the eldership for the last 2 years. she is married to Panos and they have 4 daughters, Florence, Grace, Constance and Eliza.
Stella Spyrou has been part of The Gospel Centre family for 23 years and currently heads up our women’s ministry. She is married and 2 sons
I have been involved in music ministry leadership for many years .I believe that the Lord empowers us to easily and sacrificially serve in the area of ministry that he has called us to. I currently serve in overseeing the Worship Ministry and Choir at the Gospel Centre and have been doing so since; October 2013. I have been visiting the Gospel Centre over many years since around 1999 but had no idea that one day this would be my home church. I am really enjoying being a part of such a diverse family of believers.
I Love all things God and love being used in all ways in accordance to His perfect Will. I am passionate about prayer and also in the importance of discipleship and full surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that I have a purpose to develop my relationship with my heavenly Father and to keep on growing in knowledge, understanding and Godly character. Interestingly enough I am both introvert and extravert in character but I am not sure what this depends on but it is what it is any given time and I actually quite love being me. I love the privilege of life, knowing The Truth and being in joyful peaceful fellowship. Oh…. I have attended the Gospel Centre since August 2006 J - God timez ;-)
