"If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."
- 1 John 3:17-18
who are we?
The Gospel Centre Food Bank began in 2011 and was a part of Haringey Food Bank until 2019. The Food Bank now runs independently within the auspices of the church; with volunteers from the Church as well as from the local community. During COVID-19 we have had to expand our service fivefold, so that there are now over 500 beneficiaries per month. This has meant that we have had to move our serving area to the front of 'Transform House', to make use of additional storage and bagging areas. The Food Bank is indebted to many local partners, and is an active part of the Haringey Food Network, as well as a member of the Independent Food Aid Network.
what do we do?
The Food Bank provides mainly non-perishable food to people in need, who present themselves to us when our sessions run. Alternatively, people can also be referred to us by third-parties. In addition, we provide; toiletries, baby provisions, cleaning materials and occasional perishable foods, when it has been donated by our partners. The amount of food given will depend on the number of people in the visitor's household. Whilst we do not ask for proof, we may request it of larger groups.
how to help
The Food Bank has been continuously blessed by numerous monetary and food donations. If you feel led to, please do donate. We are open to food being dropped off at the back door of the Church building , at the end of the driveway. Please ring the buzzer and someone will come to assist. We are seeking mainly non perishable items such as; canned goods, UHT long life milk, tins of fruit, toiletries, vegetables, soup, cereals, jars of cooking sauces, biscuits, coffee, hot chocolate. We also require baby related items; nappies, wipes, and food. We are open for donations at the following times;
Monday: 9am - 2pm
Tuesday: 9am - 5pm & 6:30pm - 8:15pm (Food Bank open)
Wednesday: 9am - 5pm
Thursday: 9am - 5pm
Friday: 9am - 12pm
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: 11:30am - 1pm (Food Bank open)
The Food Bank has greatly benefitted from those whom have committed to volunteering with us. However, our volunteer requirements are limited per session, due to social distancing. Despite this, we do welcome genuine expressions of interest to volunteer. Roles for volunteers include the following; help with sorting collections during a week day, packing food bags for visitors, and occasionally delivering to those in need who are not able to get to the shops. Please enquire using the contact information below.
